Is it a good idea to buy a Cat S write off?
I'm looking at buying a car that is a Cat S write off. Should the garage selling this have documentation showing what repairs were undertaken to put it back on the road and is there any legal requirement that such a vehicle undergo testing to prove roadworthy?

I would avoid buying it like the plague, there is no obligation on the seller to do anything other advise it has been a previous total loss. It is up to you to carry out the due diligence - 'buyer beware' is what it would fall under. Unless you are a professional insurance engineer, or have worked in a bodyshop and have access to the repair methods to repair, walk away.
