Dilema of options for buying a new/newish car 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Good Morning. Hoping for some advice for a situation I have never been in before. Background: My self employed wife is looking to get a new or newish car to replace her current car. We had a look around a few likely contenders and she is very keen on the BMW 1 series. She does about 8,000 -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 1998 - battery boost - help needed 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
everything, ive heard of this battery thing that fits into the cig lighter, but thought a 10 year old car would be tolerant of a battery disconection-my 11 year old Hyundai Sonata gave no problems at all when i fitted a new battery last year. This battery removal and cleanup of the rusty tray etc -
Legroom Required - Apply Within 12 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The time is approaching for a replacement for my Vectra B to be found. All things being equal, a 2 year old/60,000 mile Vectra C would be sought from auction. However, whilst I'm 6'2" and find the Vectra comfortable in the front, my 13 year old son is starting to complain about the lack of legroom -
spacesaver tyres & old backroom polls 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Stimulated by the recent thread on spacesaver spares, I've been thinking. When we had a poll on spare tyre options, 85% or so of respondants expressed a preference for a full size spare wheel, and I guess most motorists would agree. Once upon a time, such a thing was standard on all cars -

Handprints etched into windscreen 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
No matter what I clean the inside of my car's windscreen with (including Autoglym Car Glass Polish), by tne time a film has built up you can see the same old handprints and fingerprints every time. It's a replacement screen and I can only assume that the fitter had very corrosive perspiration -
Mazda 323 97 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
What do people think of this car? I like the lines, but it's an old model with what HJ calls a high death rate (worrying). I imagine, being a Mazda it's reliable and though I couldn't afford to run the the V6, I've been offered a 1.8 Executive with 79,000 miles for £1500. What can expect -
Modern Diesels OK Mileage? 3 Jul 2006 (Forum)
We all know that modern vehicles can well exceed the 100k car mark before any problems. But if you were buying a 4-5 year old vehicle then whats the max mileage you would accept? There are plenty of vehicles out there with 120-160k on the clock, which can be bought cheaply enough. But is an older -
toyota yaris 1.4 t spririt auto 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Had my car serviced this month and mentioned screech from fan belt when starting from cold. They adjusted, but, noise still there, when I went back to svc dept, they said that this fault was inherent with the Yaris - anyone else had this problem? By the way have 10,600mls on the clock and car -
Claim Settlement 15 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hiya, I've got a question concerning a claim settlement. Had a damage on my car some month ago. It looks as if the causer (his insurance) is going to pay eventually. Meanwhile I'd rather like to buy another car spending the settlement money on the new one and sell the old one as it is without -
New Ford Focus 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Was following a new shape Focus for several miles today and its number plate was of the format AB02XYZ (not the actual number, of course). How could this be registered with a 2002 plate when the car was only introduced last year i.e. 2004. I suppose the owner could have asked for an old plate -

So how do rate them? I am torn bettween the BM530D and the Merc E 270CDI. Which is the better car?? Both look good, great residuals etc. I need the car for 3 years will pay cash and want a 1 year old with less than 10k on the clock. Which would you choose and why?? -
Ford Focus TDDi 19 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I'm just woundering has anyone heard of the timing belts failing on this type of car. I was told on Friday by a Ford dealer that they last upto 100,000 miles or 10 years my reply was 'what, on a diesel'. I've booked my car in for the belt to be changed on Thursday by Ford in Sutton Coldfield -
13 month MOT 13 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I know you can have your car MOT tested up to a month in advance if you present the previous MOT certificate at the time of the test. Does anyone know if you can have your first MOT, on a 3 year old car, a month in advance, i.e. Post dated to the date of registration. Would presenting your V5 -
2nd (ever) Car... suggestions? 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I recently sold my old faithful... a 1.1 Pug 106 and I'm looking at upgrading to something a bit nippier like a 1.6. At the moment I'm considering the 306, another 106, Civic or an early Golf. I'm a bit stuck at the minute really... I'd love a 306 but I hear the reliability is extremely poor. Any -

Leaking Brake Fluid? 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)
When changing a rear wheel on my car this week, (which has drum brakes on the rear) I noticed a sticky golden residue around the rear wheel studs. Is this brake fluid? Where is it coming from? There seems to be plenty of fluid in the reservoir still. Advice appreciated. Car is about 4 years old -
Rover Knocking Noise 2 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Annoying clonking noise coming from offside rear whenever going over bump or uneven surface in my old model 1995 214SLI, 55,000 miler. HJ mentioned in the car by car breakdown that this type of noise could be caused by worn bushes or where the roof pillar attaches to the body - exactly which
