Had my car serviced this month and mentioned screech from fan belt when starting from cold. They adjusted, but, noise still there, when I went back to svc dept, they said that this fault was inherent with the Yaris - anyone else had this problem? By the way have 10,600mls on the clock and car just coming up to 2 yrs old.

It could well be that the belt is glazed where it had previously been slipping. No amount of adjusting will prevent it from slipping. Try replacing the belt.

Wife has an early 1.3CDX auto with around 50Kmiles - never experienced the problem!

Have been told by Toyota dealership that this is normal with the Yaris, anyone else been told this?

We had a Yaris 1.3 for over 2 years: no belt noise experienced. Can't think why such a common or garden device would give a problem on a Yaris particularly.
