Volvo EX30 (2024 on)
Single drive, extended range
Very disappointing.
My previous ev, a Kia, let me down once too often so I sold it, at a considerable loss, and bought a Volvo EX30.
I chose the EX30 because it was the right size but primarily because it was a Volvo, whose reputation for quality and customer service was reassuring.
When all is well it is very practical and great to drive. Sadly the many drawbacks make it a difficult car to live with, if only one could buy a low-tech version as most of the car’s problems, but not all, are software related. One that is not is the cars range
which at the recommended 90% charge is a little under 200 miles. I don’t consider this to be in any way acceptable, particularly
for the extended range version. What I consider to be an essential emergency control, the demister, entails stabbing hopefully at the overhead touch controls whilst driving in reducing visability, This has happened to me and is a dangerous situation until
the stabbing finger finds it mark!
The built in safety features are a horror, if one forgets to cancel these the gong that sounds when the legal speed is exceeded
combined with violent and scary tugs on the steering wheel should one stray from the cars preferred track. Cancelling these
has to become part of your pre driving away checks, like a pilot’s pre-taxi check-list. I could go on and on but have no space left!
