Best family car I ever had

We bought our top-of-the-range model from a VW dealer. It was an ex-hire car with 30,000 miles on the clock. We live in the middle of Germany and use it almost solely for long distance trips to Berlin or the Highlands of Scotland. After 4 years it never put a foot wrong and averages 48 mpg driven on the motorway but 55 mpg on A-roads. It is sure-footed but scarcely sporty. On the Autobahn it has plenty of pulling power effortlessly to keep up with the black BMW brigade and you scarcely need to change gear. The spec is comprehensive and has all the gizmos you find on much younger cars. The seats are comfy even after a whole day on the road.
