Suzuki Jimny (2019 - 2021)
1.5 SZ4 3dr
Exactly the car I wanted in so many positive ways!
This was just the car I was looking for, when I first read about it in 2018. Then I saw it in the flesh and rode in it in October 2018 and I determined to track one down. I knew that I favoured the lower spec SZ4 model, particularly as the black steel wheels look great and alloys do not wear well on a 4x4. This model came in Silver, Black and White. Silver is far and away the best looking.
The road tests, written by young drivers, did not put me off when they described poor motorway performance, poor handling on road and poor performance. I learned to drive in a 1967 Triumph Herald and have driven 4x4s of varying capabilities since 1994 and loved them all.
In fact, the 2019 Jimny is great fun to drive on all kinds of road and in all weather. Last month we drove, on motorways, from Weston super Mare to Nottingham in torrential rain. This journey would have terrified some of the youthful reviewers but the excellent visibility and rock steady stance on the road allowed us to make rapid and safe progress.
Now, the car is small and luggage capacity is limited. However, it is tall and this can allow a deceptively bulky payload (3 people, a dog in a large carrier, overnight luggage and bulky Christmas gifts to be forwarded on).
So, if this is the car for you, go out, buy it if you can find one, enjoy it and keep it forever.
