Suzuki Alto (2009 - 2015)
SZ3
Likeable but compromised and fragile build
Positives: Good handling, excellent engine, economy pretty good, gearbox nice, comfortable seats, steady on fast roads, simple to operate.
Negatives: Lack of elec window controls for passenger side on drivers door meaning you have to lean over, steering heavier than you expect at slow speeds, boot lip high, slight throttle delay, lack of dipping rearview mirror, ride a bit firm.
Getting 59 mpg average running on Tesco Momentum.
Owning an early example means mine is experiencing new never seen before faults aswell as known ones. Engine mount changed as part of sale for latest version. Strange clutch noise - found broken clutch release bearing but didnt solve the noise - on going investigations. Air con stopped working, electrical issue rather than mechanical, repair pending. At 47000 miles front wheel bearings on way out.
Not likely to let you down but be prepared for frequent trips to garage if it is early model, it appears they didnt finish engineering it. Feels and appears solid but prone to niggly faults. Paint quality very good though and interior durable.
Not experienced high tyre wear but having previously owned a car that people also complained about tyre wear and not having the same experience I wonder if the factory tyres are a soft compound - when I change mine I will be trying the Falkens they put on the VW UP which have a B rating for economy, so hopefull a hardish compound.
Still rather like the car despite its issues, perhaps I wouldnt if it wasnt under a dealer warranty though as could prove expensive to run!
