Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)

Linear SE 2.0t 4dr Auto Saloon
Solid, comfortable and great value for money
I've had four SAABs so you could say I'm sold on the benefits of being a SAAB owner. The models before Vauxhall were involved will, I'm sure, remain desireable even though they are no longer made. The fact that they're no longer manufactured will make them scarce and paradoxaly more desirable in the future.
I never tire of driving mine and with a SAAB trained mechanic (and SAAB fan) looking after my servicing needs I don't get any flack about parts being hard to find or anything being too difficult or complicated.
The ride is as good as I remember. Breakdowns have been few and due to natural wear and tear and not some inherent fault. Depreciation is near zero. Not a hint of rust. And the exhaust ststem is original. With 150K on the clock I've probably got another 100K in reserve before a rebuild may require a rethink on a replacement. Downside? Not great mpg by modern standards and front tyre wear can be a problem if you don't rotate the wheels front to back. Tax is too high at £245 (I think). Upside? Drives like a dream. Comfortable. Quick when you want it to be. Great sound system and a cassette player - wow, I love a bit of retro. What a pity it doesn't play vinyl too. Insurance is less than £200.
