Renault Scenic XMOD (2013 - 2016)
Dynamique Nav 1.5 dCi 110 Stop and Start 5dr MPV
Beautifully relaxed, comfortable, reliable, economical and versatile.
I traded in my Megane Sport Tourer for a new X-MOD back in January 2014, buying from the same Renault dealership as before for the simple reason they've consistently provided a first class service in all respects.
More luggage carrying capacity than even the Megane could muster was important as I have two university-aged children (plus all their accumulated clutter) to transport around the country, making economy, reliability and comfort core to my requirements.
Removing the three individual rear seats converts the Scenic into a usefully sized van (yes, the seats are a bit heavy but that's because they're sturdy, and - to be honest - I far prefer the additional space liberated when they're removed than any 'convenience' that might be offered by their simply folding flat into the boot floor, such as on some of its rivals.
In these two years (so far) of ownership my X-MOD has been utterly reliable no matter the road and weather conditions: the 3-mode 'Extended Grip' traction control system, Continental All-Seasons tyres and its increased ride height have kept me and the car mobile over the last two winters.
There has been only one scheduled visit to the dealership and that was for its annual service.
Nothing rattles and nothing has fallen off.
In terms of economy, the lowest overall MPG/tankful I've recorded has been 52mpg with the highest being 63mpg. So I really can't grumble.
Annual VED is £20 and insurance costs (for a 57yr old with clean licence and full NCB) a smidgen over £200 pa.
Whether trawling down - fully-laden - to Farnham on a 'Uni-run' or my wife and I escaping - child-free - northwards to our beloved Oban, our X-MOD is unbeatable.
If forced to change it, what would I replace it with? Easy...another X-MOD.
