Hyundai Bayon (2021 on)
SE Connect T-GDi 100 eClutch (iMT) MHEV 48v Start/Stop 5dr
Like the Curate's egg - good in parts
Purchased the car based on owning Hyundais previously without any problems.
The 100bhp engine is okay but the default economy mode leaves the car struggling at times. Unless sport mode is selected I have not seen any torque boost from the 48v hybrid battery. In fact the hybrid system seems rather pointless as the stop/start works intermittently at best and sometimes fails to restart the car. and the hybrid battery fobs the space needed to fit a spacesaver spare wheel. Also beware of the "sailing" feature in economy mode - take your foot off the throttle and initially the car starts to slow under engine braking as you expect but then the engine cuts out and the car coasts - speeding up if going downhill.
Economy is poor around town (low 40s) but mid 50's on main roads/ motorways at 65/70 mph.
Surprising for a Hyundai I am experiencing faults - On maybe half dozen occasions the centre display has failed to come on although radio etc can be heard. Also the driver's door has locked itself several times forcing me to exit the car through the passenger door.
Good value for money but disappointing.
