Honda Civic (2006 - 2011)
1.8 Type S GT
Disappointing Experience
I posted a review of this car on the site not long after I bought it. I was really enjoying owning this car. Unfortunately things have gone downhill, and while I still think the car is great to drive I've had far too many issues:
*Knocking coming from steering column (steering rack replaced under warranty)
*Inaccurate external temperature sensor (replaced under warranty)
*Bumpstop replaced at cost of £99. Not covered by warranty
*Windscreen wipers intermittently parking several inches from the bottom of the screen
*Folding mirrors don't always fold all the way, driver's side particularly slow (Honda paying for parts while I pay labour cost of £25 to fix driver's side mirror)
*CD player will often not read CDs, particularly in hot weather or climate control is set to a warm temperature. Quoted £848 excluding VAT and fitting for a new unit
*Sticking panoramic roof blind (Honda have offered to pay for parts and dealer would reduce labour rate but would still leave me £215 to pay to have this fixed)
*Creaking clutch pedal (to be diagnosed)
*Also front discs and pads needed replacing three months after buying at a cost of £245, which while a consumable it's disappointing to have to do this on an Approved Used car
*Some very hit and miss service from Honda dealers. First impressions of one in particular were great but service turned into a farce and looked like they were trying to rip me off
With the faults I've had I can't recommend this car to anyone, as much as I'd still love to. Despite the issues I still like the car, it's great to look at and very good to drive (without the clutch pedal issue anyway). The Type S GT has a lot going for it in terms of value for money and equipment included (if it all works properly), but build quality is evidently poor, and service from dealerships not at all as expected so far.
