Honda Accord (2003 - 2008)
2.2 CTDi EX 4dr Saloon
Best car I have owned
I bought the car as an ex-Honda car with a few thousand miles on the clock and it feels just as good now in 2011.
Having tried everything else (executive and family) it seemed to be the best balance between build quality, price, equipment and performance.
Downsides first because only a few - Road noise (my pet hate) whilst acceptable was not as a good as the best - although recent German offerings are fairly bad for road noise now; alloys corroded but Honda sorted.
Upsides - the great engine - flexible, quiet and frugal; the build quality - no rattles whatsoever, everything fits and works perfectly; the looks - edgy rather than "appeals to all" looks; comfort - all the toys, great seats, thoughtful touches, good driving position; the cost - cheap for diesel, fairly cheap to buy, lots of toys for free; Safety - predictable handling in all weather, great visibility; Ride - best bar Merc (NB 16inch wheels); Handling - good with a little bit of understeer.
Overall (and having owned a few 'premium' German cars of similar newness) a veritable bargain - a car not obsessed either with status or appearance but something that just works really well so keeps you happy. The good news for those who discover the brand is that they save money, get a great car and have something much rarer than an Audi, Merc or BM.
When I replace I will be scratching my head as I would rather just have another new one again.
