BMW 5 Series Touring (2010 - 2017)
535d SE Auto
Smooth, fast, comfortable and economical.
I was looking for a 5 Series Touring diesel with a 6 cylinder engine, expecting to purchase a 530d. My previous car was a BMW 325d SE Touring (2006) and before that a 330d Touring (2000). The 5 Series was required because we haul a great deal of boat equipment between the Midlands and Plymouth. SE models are hard to find, but I prefer the ride and slightly smaller wheels. I found the car we now have in Surrey on BMWs own website, and with 11,000 miles on the clock and many extras, i thought for a 535d it was a reasonable price, i.e. much cheaper than when it was new 11 months earlier. A good trade-in price was offerred for my 325d with 35,000 miles on the clock. The 5 Series is all i had hoped and more. It is a big car, but carries its size well. The engine is almost inaudable and the 8 speed sports auto box makes me wonder why I drove manuals before. The car feels very well built, and no faults have appeared so far. insurance is costing me no more than the 3 Series after some shopping around. A further bonus was that the car came with a 5 year service package, which certainly helps contain costs. All in all I am well satisfied. We also drive a 325d convertible (2009), and a Z4 2.5Si (2007), so perhaps are somewhat BMW biased! Our local dealers have an excellent service department, which cares for all 3 cars, despite the fact that none of them were purchased there.
