BMW 5 Series Touring (2004 - 2010)
520d M Sport Business Edition Estate
Fantastic ride & mpg let down by appalling stereo and nav.
I moved to the 5-series after engine trouble with my Audi A6 which I loved.
I have to say, after-sales support from the dealer has been superb, but BMW customer services live up to expectations and deny all responsibility for everything.
The car's comfortable and it rides well. I'm no audiophile but if you're buying one, take the time to find one with the upgraded stereo and professional navigation. The standard stereo distorts at even medium volume and has no tweeters (treble). The radio reception is terrible, although I don't know what the DAB is like. The nav is slow to respond, and the standard screen far too small ... and despite the latest DVD, seems to have a fair few roads missing from it. Oh and the bluetooth on my blackberry wont disconnect when I get out of the car.... If I'd known all this I'd not have bought the car - incredibly irritating.
The sport handling is good for everyday use - although chuck it in to corner off guard and at speed and it'll bounce back at you. I dread to think what the SE is like.
Seats are comfortable and the interior relatively spacious. If you're buying a touring, watch out for scratches on the rear bumper.
