Audi TT (2006 - 2014)
2.0 TFSI Sport 2dr Coupe
A car you can look forward to driving.
There was nothing wrong with our previous car, a VW Eos, I was just getting a little fed up with the lacklustre performance and noise of the 2.0 TDi unit. There is obviously a huge difference in fuel economy, but we only use our car for pleasure, so it really doesn't feature greatly on our priorities. We had a look at the TT and were surprised at how much more load space it offered. Had a drive, bought it. The petrol engine is so much quieter, more flexible and on a different planet for performance. The way it will plod around town in high gear has amazed me; a real Jekyll and Hyde as when you need to overtake it totally changes character and revs like a good'un. A slightly clumsy 1st to 2nd makes it difficult to be really smooth pulling away, but is about the only gripe I have.
My wife has a chronic back problem, but she finds the ride and seats extremely comfortable. I've never found anything to rival our Volvo V70 on the seats front, but I've no complaints. The dash and switch layout is very familiar after the VW, just slightly different buttons and knobs - quality is top drawer. I love the way I can rest the hatch shut and then just gently press with a finger and 'click' it locks. This sort of thing gives a good feel as to how they put them together.
Ours is what would be called 'poverty spec', but it has great history and losing all the toys we had on the VW hasn't bothered me a jot. We're off on a trip through Spain and France soon - I can't wait! After 45+ years of driving I didn't think anything would give me such a buzz. It's bright red and we love it.
