Audi Q5 (2008 - 2017)
3.0 TDI quattro S line Plus 245 5dr Auto SUV
Refined quiet and very comfortable with a smooth ride and excellent S-tronic gearbox
I bought this to replace my Audi A5 3.0L Quattro with the same engine and whilst I was looking forward to the new car I was worried it would be a bit roly-poly round corners and lack the acceleration of the A5.
I was wrong. It drives just as well for a much taller and bulkier car and doesn't lack in performance. I like the Q5's higher "sit up and beg" driving position and find it easier to get in and out. Legroom for rear passengers is very good, the boot is not as large as I recall when viewing in the showroom but as we no longer have children at home it is fine for our purposes. It does come with roof rails and bars as standard and as we have a roof box I could utilise this if required.
The car has loads of useful accessories as standard but it also has many more, typical for Audi, which came at extra cost.
Fuel economy is improving as the engine loosens up (4,000 miles now) from an initial average of only 32 but now achieving 35 mpg which for a big car with this engine and 4x4 is quite reasonable.
I've not had any issues with either warranty, maintenance & repairs or reliability thus far - hence the 5 star rating, but clearly early days yet. If it's as good as my A5 then it will secure the 5 star rating again.
Insurance costs are high but probably distorted because both of my sons are on the policy as occasional drivers.
