Audi A6 Avant (2005 - 2011)
3.2 FSI quattro SE Avant Auto Estate
Worst purchase ever
Good bits....Hmmmm nice interior, like MMI, boot space, seats, space, in front. Genuinely is tight squeeze for even two adults and 7 year old in the back, ridiculous in a car this size. Bad bits, where to start? Steering very light, no feedback whatsoever. 18" alloys even in SE trim make overly harsh ride, even for former 30 something boy racer. Quattro and tiptropic give horrible drive train shunt at low speed around town. Pulling out of junctions or onto roundabout car bogs down then shoots out, just when you think nothing doing! Clumsy on country roads. Basically have very grippy high powered car with no steering feel. Least enjoyable driving experience for a long time. Fine on motorways.
Then there's the godamm swine chain 3.2 engine. It's all true. Engine out gearbox off chains replaced with guides tensioner etc. Thousands!! Then unrelated? Couple thousand miles later exhaust flexi joints fail. Audi part is = £700 ish PER SIDE!! Then... Rear callipers seize £500 ish per side, I could go on so I will. Engine timing off again, needs gearbox off engine out and valve timing hydraulic actuator beasties replaced at£1000 plus labour (8 hours minimum).
Total c*** hole of a car. Never again. Just need it back in one piece so I can trade it for non VAG group car. Always had them up to this point, but final straw I think.
Avoid 3.2V6 at all costs, and possibly the A6 in general judging by the problems cited by those below with diesels.
Oh yes and rear wiper has packed up. Why the hell can't VAG build a car that doesn't have this issue? Feeling hatred currently.
