Warranty Direct to follow industry code of practice

Mon, 01 Jun 2009
Warranty Direct, the UK's leading provider of direct automotive warranties, has confirmed that it will be adopting the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Vehicle Warranty Products when it is launched in July.

The Company has long been a trailblazer in the automotive warranty sector, being the first remove the 'get-out clauses' traditionally found in warranty small print that excludes faults as a result of wear and tear or consequential loss. Now, Warranty Direct even covers faults found in routine MOT and service. In March 2009, Warranty Direct was awarded the Honest John 'HAT' standard for outstanding service.

Motor Codes Limited has been created by the industry to oversee self-regulating codes of practice to ensure honest and fair service for the motoring consumer.

The Code of Practice for Vehicle Warranty Products has received Stage One approval from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), and Warranty Direct's subscription to the code highlights its commitment to providing the most comprehensive warranty cover for its customers.

"There is a lot of concern from motorists about standards of service in the used car market," said Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of Warranty Direct. "We have always aimed to quell some of that concern by presenting excellent customer service, as well as innovative policies that offer real, tangible benefits to the consumer that they could not get from almost any other warranty company.

"Thanks to our work and initiatives such as that of Motor Codes Limited, car warranties are now a mainstream product and we are delighted to subscribe to a Code that adds to the credibility of the warranty market."

The Motor Industry Code of Practice for Vehicle Warranty Products safeguards consumer interests by helping them identify responsible providers and encourage the sector to raise and maintain a high standard of customer service. The Code is currently progressing through the OFT Consumer Codes Approval Scheme.
