Hi,

My car broke down, aux belt went again. I descided it was not worth fixing the car. the breakdown guy said that they tooks cars for recycling. They took the car. The guy from the company phoned me today, talked V5 and exchange of docs. however there was no mention of its scrap value! I asked the guy and he fudged the question.

I know my xantia is worth some money as scrap.

Is the car their's the moment they tow?

Without the V5 could i get another scrappie to go and get the car and give me £140 for it.

Any thoughts or links most helpful, prob have tonight to descide what to do as the V5 will arrive with them in the morning post.

Hi ,the guy who towed your car is entitled to charge for his services ,quite possibly the value of your car , unless they were the AA or similair .

He is acting for green flag and I was covered with my policy so he'll get paid anyway.

Then the car is your property and your entitled to sell it as you wish ,but why have you sent him your v5.

If my car was towed y Green Flag I'd expect it to go to either (a) my home or (b) my nominated garage.

Where did yours end up?

Mine ended up in the yard of the recovery people. The MOT was up the, the car needed loads of work. It was a brilliat car but it was time to let it go. The tow guy offered to take it away, it was a blizzard (no excuse)

Yes what should have happened was they took it back round to my house and then i call the number of the scrappies i got today and they come to my house, give me cash for v5 and finito, job done.

I know! Why did i send him the V5.

I suppose I thnking he could not scrap the car till he had the documentation. i agree though it should be an exchange, he gives me the cash i give him the v5. He's already agreed to return the tax disk and sorn notice I suppose I just though when he's got the v5 he could return those docs and a cheque.

They are a big company, its not as if he has said he's not paying me but I agree i've done the wrong thing.

He's not doing you a favour by returning the disc .Only the registered keeper ,you, can recover its value from the dvla .

It could be worthwhile having a word with green flag ,its starting to sound like sharp practice on his part .
