Peugeot 407 coupe - Snow damage - DJS676

During the recent spell of snow I left my car idle for a week. In that time the melting snow managed to leak into the boot through the back of the rear light cluster. The water gathered in the spare wheel well and other recesses in the boot where various ECUs are placed.

I'm trying to dry out the ECUs rather than replace. It seems that the Peugeot 407 has a reputation for leaky rear light clusters often showing tell tale condensation inside them. I had no idea so much damage could be caused!

The lesson I've learnt is not to leave your car covered in snow. Fine while its freezing but could be expensive when it starts to thaw.

A lesson not to leave a Peugeot covered in snow, certainly. Sure, some cars leak, but one would hope that most ECUs wherever situated would be better protected.

If you, for example, go abroad, you may not have much choice but to leave your car covered in snow!

I have many times, with absolutely no ill-effects whatsoever. But then I've always maintained a strict "anything as long as it's not French" policy with cars.

Closest I ever got was a Talbot Alpine[1], which was pretty much what you'd expect of a Peugeot rebrand of a Chrysler vehicle taken from a Simca design and fitted with an Italian carburettor. But it wasn't made in France, so it didn't leak and the electrics worked.

[1] In my defence, it was very cheap and I was both desperate and skint at the time.

My 10 year old Yaris has no snow leaks.

But then it's Japanese.

People who complain about French cars should blame the person who bought the car as their reputation for lousy quality is well established by now.
