skoda superb 2 1.9 tdi 09 plate - annoying whine between 50 and 60 mph - skippy41

I have just bought this car but not from a skoda dealer, it was a motorbility car.

When I get to 50 mph I get a sound simular to someong blowing over the top of a bottle between 50 and 60 but constant, the revs are between 1500 and 2000, in 5 th gear over and below those speeds it not there,

Another example its like the sound you get from a car radio thats not supresed, and you can hear the alternator through the speakers

Check all the door seals, also close all the vents and see if it still happens

Put it in neutral, does the sound go away?

Ask a motor savy friend to have ride and a listen. As driver you have distractions but some one who can give their whole attention to the sound may be able to better track it.

I noticed the cab fan motor gives out a bit of noise occassionally, noticed it alright when moving around the town, so this might tie in with your slow speeds. i turned the fan motor(blower) off and the sound went.

try it, the fan itself could need a bit of greese or oil

I had a mechanic check it out its a dif bearing thats on the way out.

Now given the age of the car a 59 plate that came out of skoda waranty in November, with only 36,000 miles on it when I bought it at the end of Feb this year, but not from a skoda dealer how could I get skoda to fix it for free, the car came from a skoda dealer to the dealer I bought it from

it has now done 45,000
