Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI 2008 - Hesitation unser load - elliotff

Hi All,

I have recently developed a fault with my 2008 TDCI focus. The fault seems to be if I am cruising at about 50+ in 5th gear and i try to accelerate there is hesitation and eventually the car will shudder/kangaroo! This happens at about 2500rpm +..... I then have to back off and continue at the speed i was going.

Things i have tried/thought about:

EGR - Valve. I have blocked the valve with a blanking plate. there are no warning lights ETC. (i have had the valve blanked for a year or so with no issues)

MAF sensor - i have read these are a common issue and can be cleaned / replaced.

Fuel Pump - i have a OBD2 reader and I can see when I do accelerate the fuel rail pressure drops from 18,000 psi to 4,000 ish. Could this be a fuel pump fault or is the system shutting the pump off as a fault is detected elsewhere!

These are no other faults that the ECU is reporting. What do you guys think the best path is, as I would rather not have to replace the fuel pump

Car has done 65,000 miles, services well within recommended time...

Any ideas

Thanks
