My sister got locked out of her car yesterday.

She left her keys on the seat in the car and closed the door by mistake. It immediately locked her out, had to get a locksmith to get her back in.

Is this a known fault?

or usual with this model? If so can this function be disabled?

Like most modern cars it is programmed for automatic re-lock.If the car is unlocked ,and nobody enters the car, then the system will re-lock the car.I would check the operation of the interior light from the drivers door ,if it does not come on,then this could be your fault. It is possible this function can be programmed out via diagnostic system hth

As the door was opened from inside auto lock would be disabled. It only works when you unlock from outside the car then don't open a door.

It is possible on VAG cars to centrally lock the doors from the drivers door button before shutting the door.

Actualy, the OP does not state that the doors were opened from the inside. Nor which door was opened.

I'd agree with Elekie. Test that the door open switch in the latch is working properly.

Alternatively, don't these cars have the door locking module inside the door where it is prone to getting wet? Check that out too.

Oh, and never never never never put your keys down inside a car. Always keep hold of them, put them in your pocket / handbag / whatever. And on any long journey, make sure your passenger has your spare on their person.

To clarify. Apparently she opened a rear door first to attend to a child in a baby seat dropping the keys inside the car in the process

When she closed the rear door she was locked out of all doors

So, she unlocked the car, opened the rear door to put child in, then closed door??? Then car locked itself.

If not, can you describe the sequence of events leading up to the locking for us so we can compare them to what we think the cars logic is?

That's exactly how it happened (leaving a wailing child alone inside the car)

The only thing I can think of then, is that the car requires the drivers door to be opened in order to release the self relocking. A stupid logic if you ask me, but early cars with this system did have it this way. A properly engineered system would allow you to open any door.

OR

as mentioned above the door open switch for that door is not working properly.
