Toyota Yaris - Orange engine light on dash intermittently on - Prism

Hi,

Does anyone know what it means when the orange engine light comes on on the dashboard?

I took it in for service and soon after this light started coming on when I had been driving more than 20 minutes or so. This has never happened before. But then after a couple more times driving it would go off by itself.

Not sure what it means and trying not to spend more money this year. My car is quite old, 2002 model.

Any ideas or advice anyone?

Was it a Toyota service or independent?

Did they use a Toyota oild filter and the correct oil..?

0w-30 or 10-40W semi sythetic oil.

Toyota oil filter ..

The light is oil pressure warning.

The amber 'engine' symbol being on is prompting you to plug a code-reader into the OBD socket below the steering wheel and only the fault code shown will tell you why the light is on. The socket will most probably be covered by a flap of some description. Your motoring organisation - AA, RAC or whoever - will come out and read the code for you, especially if you park on a supermarket car park and tell 'em it's just come on and you're afraid to continue until you know it's safe to do so. You can buy quite cheap code readers on line but you would have to read the reviews first to make sure that they will not only display the fault code but also tell you what the code means! I have a Sealey code reader - forty quid from my local parts shop, which does the job for me.

Thanks for advice, took car into garage today and they put the code reader in. He said it was something to do with Oxygen sensor, but would be able to wait a year till next MOT. Also that it would be good to take it out for run on the motorway.

Hmm be aware son had trhat and we left it.. Needed a new catalyst. £129 plus fitting.

Recently serviced ! now light on = oxy sensor

I would check for a vacum pipe or loose air pipe ! that can trigger oxy sensor fault.

They are wrong to tell you wait till next MOT. If there is a fault and its an air leak or faulty sensor the car could be running in default mode burning more fuel and burning out your cat !
