Fiat 500 Panda 1.1 Active 56 Plate - Throttle Control Problem and Central Locking - panda4u

I purchased the above vehicle 2 weeks ago from a local car dealership for £3000.It has 38,325 mileage and a full service history. 0ne previous owner and the vehicle is in immaculate condition.

Upon collecting this vehicle and driving it home the following has occured...

1. Approximately 5 miles from the dealership the engine started to rev up and down while stationary.

2.The engine was trying taking control of the accelerator peddle and wanted to drive itself when driving.

3.This problem went away after restarting the vehicle and rev problem occured again when starting the vehicle from cold.

4.The fault then went away completely for approximately a week.

5.Now the problem has resumed again when the engine is cold or hot.

6.I have returned the vehicle back to the dealership but they will only repair it with used parts because they stated the vehicle is used.

Yesterday the dealership told me that the car has had another throttle body replaced and is doing the same again regards reving up and down.

What else can cause this problem? I am deciding if it is worth to tell the dealer to provide new parts and I will pay for them.

NOTE; No Engine Management Light shows when the engine revs up and down.

Central Locking Problem....

I have replaced the batteries on this one key provided with central locking..It doesn`t work when trying to use the central locking system on the vehicle..Told by dealership that a Fiat Dealership can only fix the problem as needs the key code reset again into the engine management system.

I have the key code..Is it correct that only a Fiat Dealership can reset the key code to work again or can any garage access fix this?

I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions of the above problems as I am getting very annoyed with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle from..Want this problems resolved as soon as possible.

Thank You

Allan

The dealer is talking rubbish he is responsible for the repair and all the costs.

The problem is a temp sensor that requires replacing common problem on this engine or it could be the throttle body same symptomsbut less likely. The key only Fiat can sort out properly but again its down to the dealer where you purchased the car.

I am the dealer concerned, and I can assure you I am not talking rubbish.

1 The temp sensor has been replaced

2 The throttle body has been sent to a company called AC tronics for recon

3 The customer was aware at time of purchase that the remote on the central locking was not working.

I don't know if you Collos25 are a mechanic or an enthusiastic amateur, but the fact that you appear to diagnose a fault accurately without seeing the vehicle, I suspect you are the latter.

As you don't know the terms of the sale, you are not in a position to comment on responsibility, regarding the remote locking.

I have been back to the dealer today and collect ed my car. I would like to add the following points.

1.The dealer did everything possible to rectify the fault and has provided me with excellent customer service.

2.The temp senor was replaced.

3.The throttle body was sent away by the dealer to ACtronics and reconditioned,The dealer showed me the receipt that had been paid for this to be done.

4.After collecting the vehicle from the dealer it has been operationg okay.

5.I will take the vehicle to a Fiat dealership to get the central locking sorted.I will state that I was aware the central locking key needed resorting when I purchased the vehicle.

Thank you everyone for your assistance on this matter.

Fiat 500 Panda 1.1 Active 56 Plate - Throttle Control Problem and Central Locking - panda4u

Update per the problem of my Fiat Panda 1.1 Active...Today is Saturaday 24/11/2012.

1.The vehicle has 2 times now not started immediately when I have turned the ignition on.It has attempted to start and then cut out, only rectified by depressing the accelorator peddle and reving it for 5/10 seconds.

2.The engine still revs up and down on its own accord. Some times this can be rectified turning the engine off and restarting it but it does the same a few minutes later.

3.When stationary sometimes the engine revs highly when it has already warm and if I rev the engine it then starts reving up and own.

4.Sometimes the engine rectifies itself when it starts to rev and down 2/3 times.

5.The engine still tries to take over the accelorator peddle and drive the car a long by itsself when it is reving up and down.

6.I have been to the Arnold Clark Fiat Car Dealership and spoken with a mechanic and the service manager there this morning.I was informed that they can perform a diognostics check on the vehicle that their computer equipment would identify the fault(s) easily.Told that the car dealership that I purchased this vehicle at could not rectify all the settings on the engine management system as the computer used by them would not access everything.

7.I have contacted the dealership yesterday where I purchased this vehicle and will be returning it Monday morning for them to repair this on going problem..Hopefully they will arrange for the Fiat Car Dealership to diagnose the fault and repair it on their behalf.

8.Perhaps it is possible that the Throttle Body that has been reconditioned and the Temp sensor were not the fault at all? Could have been something differently wrong with the vehicle and the time spent and money spent already could have been wasted...Just my thoughts.

Thank You

Allan

Firstly there is no such thing as a Fiat 500 Panda, it is either a 500 or a Panda but they do have a lot of parts commonality. At that age and price I suspect it is a plain Panda, 500 doesn't come into it. Secondly I would worry more about if they can actually fix the problem than if they use second hand parts or not. If they can't then you should probably reject the car and go elsewhere, particularly since a second key will cost you serious money.
