Peugeot 206 - Accident Claim Named Driver - Single Vehicle Accid - cwalls

Yesterday I had an accident in my partners car where I collided with a deer which seems likely to write off the car.

I am a named driver on her policy (Zurich) and she has protected no claims bonus.

My question is, Can an insurance claim be claimed against a named driver only which does not affect the policy holder (i.e. so it doesnt have repercussions on her future insurances)

A little confused, i dont want my partners premiums to rise because I had an accident.

Cheers

It depends on the terms of the specific policy, but it wouldn't normally make any difference who was driving: why would an insurance company allow that?

You may find that 'protected' means that you can have no more than X accidents in a given period, so one accident on its own might not automatically raise the next premium.

If a claim is made against the policy then this will affect the policy holder. so your partner will have to declare this when Insurance is renewed.

Sorry but seems like they will ask for more money on renewal cos they are a business that needs to make money.

My view on protected no claims bouus is that they are a waste on money or a good way of making additional money if your an Insurance company. Many cases of Insurance companies hiking the premium after a claim on a Proteced NCD policy basing this that a claim has been made. Might be better shopping around on renewal, in my experience always gets a better deal.

That confirms my thuoghts that from now on both my partner and I will have to declare it on each of our insurance policies. Frustratingly so.

On a seperate note.
The car has personilised number plates. As it is in no fit state to drive it has already been declared SORN. The insurance company are collecting the car to assess tomorrow.

Do I keep the tax disc in my possession along with all the documents including the V5 knowing that I will paying to keep the plates on retention? Do I put the wheels into motion now and request the plates are held on retention so that a new V5 can be produced for the car which is likely to be scrapped?

When can I apply for a tax disc refund? regardless what happens the car will not be getting driven anytime soon!

Phone DVLA for advice on process for reg transfer on write off. IIRC there is a method for doing this but there are some strict time limits.

The tax disc is your/ your partners property. Download the refund form from the DVLA website & attach the tax disc & send off. You will need to get it into the post before 1st of Oct or you will loose a months refund. Can only get a refund on a yearly disc I think.
