Hi all.

Thank you for letting me joing this forum, and allowing me to post.

I am looking to buy a relatively new premium/luxury style car. I am not one for speed and cannot have anything over 3 litres (insurance - too young) but I am looking for a car which is well built, looks great and has many features.

My budget is around £30k can push to £35k but really don't want to go too high.

I have seen the Audi A8 @ 1 year old for £35k. Looks ok.

I have also seen the Jaguar XJ but this was over my budget @ 1 year old and Portfolio trim. Sales man was over pushing so I pulled out (and because of budget).

Any thoughts/suggestions. After something relatively soon, I am not a car enthusiast so I do not know the best cars/deals out there. I am after a good deal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I've been in your position, although probably somewhat older and I do like a quick car. I've driven quite a range of cars recently to come to a decision, including the XJ and XF, Merc CLS, BMW 328, Lexus 460 etc.

Earlier this year I bought a year old XJ Portfolio, but for various reasons, did not get on with the car and sold it back to the supplying dealer.

I am now in an Infiniti G37 and love it. Check out the Infiniti website for the G and their other models. The cars are well built and come pretty loaded as standard. Their dealerships are very good too.

Well it's either BMW 5 series, Jaguar XF, Mercedes E class, Audi A8 or Lexus GS i'd say.

Best thing to do is just test drive each and see which car, dealer & price you prefer, all good cars.

If you want even better advice, get yourself a Fiesta and knock £30k off the mortgage! (tic)

I've had a Diesel XJ sovereign (2005) since 2008 and have had XJ's for the past 10 years. So for me it would be a simple choice of the best Jaguar XF with the 3.0 diesel S engine.

However, as you are not too bothered about speed I would just go for the 3.0d PremLux or portfolio.

Once a Jag man.........:-))

Happy hunting.

Zuave.

A warm welcome to the forum.

Reading your post, and seeing that you are looking for luxury rather than speed, I immediately thought 'Lexus' . Lexus often win consumer surveys for reliability and excellence of dealers, although Jaguar do well too and an XF is a good suggestion too.

As advised above try them out, and get a good long test drive: when you're spending £30k it's a decision you need to get right.

With such a small choice you have the luxury of being able to give a test to all cars which may fit the bill.

In the list I would also include a Phaeton (if you can find a petrol) purely for comparison over the usual suspects.

Why not ask your butler? Or your cleaner? With so little money, the proletariat these days have a fine idea of what they aspire to.
