Hi, I've recently bought a 5 year old focus from a main ford dealership. I've been driving it a week and have discovered 3 heating elements in the rear windscreen don't work and a little rattling noise from the front of the car when travelling on the motorway. do you think it reasonable to take it back for the dealer to remedy these issues??

It doesn't matter what we think - it depends what the dealer thinks :<). If you can identify which elements of the HRW are not working and can identify a break in the offending ones it is is possible to repair them with a special paint, obtainable from Halfords. Rattles are really hard to locate so don't hold your breath! Is it rpm or speed related, can you do some analysis?

The rattle from the front of the car could be the rubber wheel arch liners vibrating, it's a common problem, it usually sounds like a rattle behind the dash or glove box and occurs at certain speeds. The front left side is the usual offender. There should be about 3 or so stickers around the outside of the rubber wheel arch. Put your fingers around the rubber wheel arches and if you find there is play then stick a couple or so 1" round heavy duty felt pads around the rubber, that will stop the rattle (if that's the problem of course).
