I have just re-newed my car insurance through the internet. Thought I had found a good price. Got a letter early this week saying I had not declared an accident I had in 2010, so they wanted another £78 from me. The accident they refered to was; I was driving a city car club car, hired and paid by my employer who is the CCC member not me, all I did ws drive it for them. I was waiting to turn right a cross roads and was struck on the near side by an articulated wagon that did not stop. By the time I had chance to turn round and go in the direction of the wagon I had no chance of finding the vehicle. I did make a note of the name on the back of the wagon that struck me. But, when a claim was sent to them they said; sorry without proof/registarion number/trailer number we can't help you.

So, why do I get punished by the insurance compnay when it was not my vehicle. My company paid the insurance access you would expect, I presumed its like driving a company vehicle.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

There's no get-out from declaring accidents when driving company vehicles.

Whilst it's good that the company paid all the costs - you still need to declare it in the answer to "any accidents, claims or convictions" - a claim was made on "your" insurance - indeed you still need to declare them even if you're faultless and recovered all costs from a third party.

The questions doesn't ask " any fault accidents"

You were behind the wheel at the time of the accident and a claim was made on the insurnace thus you must declare it when you renew even if you think you were not at fault, it not your decision.

Be thankful that they have charged you £78 now rather than refuse to pay out later should you have another accident.
