Alfa Romeo GT - Police pulled me and said my car flagged as stolen - Kris.P31
Hi, i have just bought a second hand car from a private seller just under a week ago now and did all of the usual checks such as HPI, VIN, asked for pictures of the current logbook supplying me with all the details i wanted and also obtained a picture of the VIN plate which matched to the log book. The HPI report came back all clear so everything appeard to be in place, so i went and bought the car drove it home no problem but last night i got pulled by the police to which they told me my car flagged up as STOLEN??? So he took all the details i could give him and told me that the car was not marked to be seized so i shouldn't worry because its somthing to do with surry police and the previous owner?
I went on to ask him what could happen as in if i could still have my car seized and he just said he didn't know which has really worried me.

The fact that the car wasn't seized there and then, is that a good sign?

I just really dont know what to do so any sort of advice would be great!

Thanks

Kris

Could be that in the past if was taken without consent, details put on PNC/ANPR, recovered and entry on PNC not deleted.

Plod would have made enquiries of Force putting inf on PNC and obviously satisfied that no longer stolen otherwise a seized vehicle and collar felt.

If it happens again you need to take it up with Police.

Hi kris,
If it does turn out that your car is stolen ,you may be able to claim against HPI .
When I do HPI checks the fee includes an insurance up to £10k ,that reimburses me against a loss because the information that HPI supplied was incorrect .

It's possible you could recover the purchase price from HPI .However as DVD says its likely to be wrong info on the police national computer ,it's also possible that you're car has been involved in a cherished number transfer and the number that it currently is registered to ,has previously been on a car that's been stolen .
It may be that's where the problem originates .
