Ford S-MAX - engine rough idling - ian1122

I thinking of buying an smax , been to look at a 1.8 tdci zetec today. The idle seemed to be quite lumpy (hunting) -but not eratic- and noisy but seemed fine when revved.I expect it to be a little noisy as its done 118000 miles. the test drive was great with engine quite responsive and powerful compared to my old 2.3 petrol galaxy... Does this engine have a timing belt and could this be the problem

You've obviously detected some sort of problem. Why do you need to ask questions about buying a problematic car? I'd guess the previous owner's traded it in because it had an expensive problem. Go ahead and buy it if you feel the need to throw money at a problem.

Can you see the problem here?
