Any other causes for Cabin Smell....Not Electrical / Water or fumes very similar to battery failure/Boil up.......Acid/ Bad Eggs. All posts would be most welcome

Have you removed the plenum chamber bungs and replaced the wholly inadequate pollen filter housing outer seal?

If not, you may have rotting biomass in there - which will be shortly followed by wet carpets and non-functioning electrics.

A real triumph of Teutonic engineering - not recalled despite being dangerous due to brake sevo rusting. Thanks a bunch, VAG.

...Phenum Chamber done most jobs on this car but not this...back to the haynes manual,well worth a try.

A former now retired machanic did also mention the CAT but no smell coming from offside engine compartment.

Could it be the battery itself? If I remember right, it's situated in the scuttle on the B5.5 cars ... the other thing is, does the car have heated seats? Faulty seat heating element maybe?

To 659FBE Many Thanks ...after the initial flush still had smell but after driving, the smell then faded,,second flush with some disinfectant done the job.
