There is a lot of internet postings about cam belt failures with early K12 Micras (2003 on).

Was this problem fixed for later models? Did Nissan/Renault fit a different spec chain?

If I avoid 03 and 04 models, can I buy an 05 with confidence?

As an "old school" K11 owner, these K12 cam chain stories are disturbing to read. The old K11 chains might get noisy over 100k, but an oil change soon quietened things down.

By the time the K12 came out, Nissan had many years of producing reliable chain-drive engines. Must be the influence of Renault...

We had a 55 plate and had no problems. Dad has an 08 plate and has had no problems. Think it was the early K12 ones.

I suppose it's best to let new models "settle in" for a few years before buying. That way, design and build flaws have a chance of being ironed out.
