Mercedes 320E - Malfunction at consumer unit - maximusimo

Hi,

2003 Mercedes 320E shows up "Malfunction at consumer unit" in display panel in front of steering wheel.

Both batteries, engine and boot, have been replaced but this error still shows up randomly. In frosty weather when this error shows up the car wont start without jump leads.

All other times it drives as normal

any ideas?

Could be that the alternator is on the way out. They're not unknown to fail on these cars although be warned on some of later V6's they are watercooled and a swine to fit making them an expensive job so make sure it is that before replacing it.
