We bought a vw golf, 55 plate 33000 miles, fsh, one owner, immaculate etc etc and after 2 weeks of perfect ownership woke up to find the rear lights on and the battery flat. The AA sorted that and we were ok for several more days, then the same problem happened twice in 3 nights. I noticed the nights were cold, this was December. We took it to our local garage that had the car on check for battery drain for 3 nights in their workshop and no problems were found. The tool each fuse out no drain. We got the car back and it drained that night, the alarm going off with the rear lights on again. Local garage recommended VW garage who again found no fault. Came back to us, ok for a night then drained again. Back to local garage that said can bus unit or alternator or starter motor could be the problem and they recommend changing one by one but can't guarantee a solution. We have spent £400 on getting nowhere. Has anyone got any ideas?
