VW Golf - Petrol or Diesel - significant difference? - futureproof

Searching around there seem to be a variety of opinions depending on make/model of car so I thought I'd ask the same questions.

I'm considering buying an ex-lease car VW Golf but they seem to predominantly be diesel rather than petrol. Must be more popular as company cars.

Given that I'll be probably doing between 7 and 9k miles per year (not a huge amount), is it worth my while doing this or just getting a used petrol car considering:

  • Initial outlay
  • Running cost
  • Road tax

Advice on this or a better course of action, welcomed.

Cheers

On the face of it, with your fairly low annual mileage a petrol would make more sense. But check the prices being charged by the leasing companies in cae there's a diesel bargain.

Also consider other makes such as the Octavia and Focus where you should get a newer car for the same money as a Golf.

VAG's 1.6 FSI wasn't great tbh. The 1.4 TSFI 1.8T 1.8 TSFI turbo engines look very nice though.
