Renault Laguna 2002 (52) - Electrics failure - dickieaww
Hi there, can anyone help, my wife was cleaning my car out yesterday and my son was playing in the drivers seat, switching switches etc, (as kids do), when i went to insert the card the dashboard went mad and started flshing all the lights at me, the out side lights didnt come on at all, due to this i was unable to start via the button, and was advised to jump start the car, that didnt work and now when i insert the key nothing happens at all.. i can understand that the battery may well be dead now, but how can this happen as i only used the car the day before!! has this happened to anyone, and what was the problem/fix, also will the code need re-programming for the key? cheers

Well if the kid has been flashing lights, interior lights on all day, radio going, the battery is probably dead. If it's an old battery, they sometimes don't recover. Jumping a diesel is often an issue with cheap jumpleads, and the car just won't start.

Try putting the jump leads on to the Laguna, and leave the other car running for 15 mins on a fast idle, it should charge the battery in the Laguna enough to start itself. Basically you're wanting to give the battery a bit of charge so your "good" car's battery and alternator isn't trying to start and charge the Laguna, possibly though insufficiant jumpleads.
