vauxhall zafira 1.6 - dash lights on with no key, car wont turn over - shawshell

after filling car up tried to turn engine over, all lights came on but car wouldnt start, took key out and all lights stayed on, tried to start it again but no compression in the ignition, all dash lights still on, had to be towed home and disconnected batter, any comments as to what the problem might be would be greatly accepted thanks

yes my brother tried starting it a few times as it was being towed.

After reading some other similar stries on here im going to connect the battery back up and give it another go and if that does not work ill take it to the garage.
