Mazda 626 (2002) 2.0 GXi SE petrol - Fuel nozzle problem - david_hpool

When I filled the Mazda up at Sainsbury's, the nozzle wouldn't go into the neck of the tank. I tried 2 pumps and both were the same. I could still fill it up but was strange having the nozzle resting against the neck rather than in it.

Either:

It's always been that way and I've only just noticed.

Sainsbury's nozzles have got fatter.

Something weird has happened to the neck of the fuel tank.

I've scoured google to no avail.

Does anyone have similar experience or any ideas? Many thanks, David.

Is your car a petrol or diesel?

I only ask as it might be a diesel now.

It is, and always has been, and I imagine, always will be, a petrol

A petrol it may be, both now and tomorrow, but you haven't half just described someone whacking a diesel nozzle up against an unleaded filler cap.

Or a doughnut of a pump fitter has put the wrong nozzle on the pump

Perhaps someone painted the hose green, changed the signs on the pump and my car doesn't mind running diesel......

Funnily enough it was also the first time I had noticed the signs saying that they would refuse to supply fule if the nozzle was not fully in the tank. Perhaps it was a psychological test - i'll see next time I fill up (somewhere else)

All very pertinent points! And all ommited from the original post :-)

In that case all I can say is no problems at our local Sainsbury, although it was before Christmas.
