VW 1.4 TSi GOLF - Fuel related misfire - zango

Hi,

Yet another problem with this car, I wondered if anyone else has had a similar exerience as it is a bit strange.

First thing to say that this is not the widely reported engine problem (low compression due to piston damage) as mine has had a full engine under warranty less than 10K miles ago.

Nor is it the ignition related problems of plugs and coil packs. New plugs recently fitted and no ignition related fault codes.

Symptom is that the engine hesitates and cuts out under high load. This is accompanied by a flashing engine light which normally (but not always) then trips the EPC fault light and leaves you in limp mode. With a key on key off it will recover until the next time you boot it.

The last fault code reported was low fuel pressure.

Now, the fault seems to be dependent on the amount of fuel in the tank and the type of fuel. This is brand not octane rating! BP is the best, Tesco is worst, but both are super.

Last week when the tank was 1/4 full the engine management light came on and stayed on. However, the car ran nearly perfectly (no hesitation in normal operation) except that it would not produce full power or full revs.

Any ideas before I go back to the dealers next week?
