Hi,

I have a Rover 45 car and i am having problems starting the car in the morning. It acts and makes the sound of the battery being flat with just the clicking noise. If i then hook up jump leads from wifes car then it starts immediatly. It will then drive for a while and then if i stop somewhere and then restart the engine even a couple of hours later it will start fine again. It seems to be only when i leave it for overnight or longer. Just some extra info that may be irrelevan but when i use the electric windows they seem to be going a little slower than normal and finally if i park the car and then use the radio or cd player while the engine is off, even for just a minute or two, the engine will not start again next time as the battery will be flat?

Is this problem the battery or something else?

Start by cleaning the battery terminals and all earths from the engine to the body work.. (Has it had recent engine work?)

The battery terminals seem to have kind of yellowish liquid on them. I know nothing about cars to be honest. I have had this one for year and i havent done any engine work on it. It has started near to last christmas when it didnt start once after not being used for 5 days when it was cold so i presumed it was just cold but now it has increased to every day. Where would i find the earths and what would i clean them with?

check the earth strap that goes from the battery to the body by the n/s headlamp.they used to suffer terrible corrsoion ! Also measure the alternator output and test the battery.
