rover 418 sdi - immobilizer/alarm - sprinterst

The immobilizer on a Rover 418 has been triggered. I have the keycode but I cannot find a key pad on which to enter it. The driver thinks he used the radio key pad but it only has the numbers 1-4. HELP, please. I cannot find any mention of an immobilizer/alarm in the handbook.

Going back 9 years now since had my Rover 400.

I think you have to do something with the key. The code you have you turn the key a number of times then wait for a period of time, 2 or 3 seconds I think. When you 've put the whole code in it should disable the immobiliser. i am sure it said this in the manual somewhere ?

good luck

The key needs to go in the drivers door and to be turned according to the instructions in the hanbook. It is many years since i have had to do this, but maybe it is in the handbook, or try haynes manuals or mgrover.org forums for the correct procedure. a warning, do not muck it up or you will have to disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes before starting again.

I ran into this problem with my 420 ended up far more complex than I imagined.

If all is well and good, the following will work. When you turn the key turn it fully to the locked or unlock position then back to it's central position for each digit (I.e do it four times for '4').

1. With the car locked

2.Insert key into drivers door lock and turn the key to the Unlock position the number of times indicated by the 1st digit of key code.

3.Turn the key to the Locked position the number of time indicated by the second digit of your key code.

4.Turn the key to the Unlock position the number of times indicated by the third digit of your key code

5 Turn the key to the locked position the number of times indicated by the forth digit of your key code

6 Turn the key to the unlock position

If you hear a sigle Beep from the horn you have entered the wrong code. Open and shut the drivers door fully (this resets the system) then try again. You can try 3 times then you will have to wait 10 minutes. you don't need to disconnect the battery or anything like that. You will find detailed information on this at http://www.rover-400-series.co.uk
