Car Insurance and University - Craigdm

My daughter is just about to start university next month and has this weird idea about taking her car with her. Think I've persuaded her to do without for the first term, but might be fighting a losing battle (she loves Terry the Twingo).

I'm assuming that she would have to inform her insurance company and that they would then bump her premiums up considerably.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Car Insurance and University - bathtub tom

My daughters had cars before they went to university. A clause on the policy specifically excluded 'driving to and from a place of study'.

We decided not to explore the cost of getting it removed!

It would be worth finding out the provisions for parking at the university. The uni I went to had a policy that undergrads were not allowed a parking space unless they had a disability as there just wasn't enough space. I tried to get a permit as a postgrad but it was very expensive. The bus was an all-round better option. If she's off to uni in a big city, it may whack the insurance right up (I knew several people at uni in Manchester/Liverpool - the premiums were phenomenally high!)

I also got charged £26 by my insurer for changing my address, as they have to send out new policy documents!
