Think this "person" may be a bot. Don't know what the aim is. Best to get rid?
Hello Guys, - unthrottled

I foresee some great dialogue between Avant and ELIZA...

Hello Guys, - Avant

Welcome to the forum, Huon. Is yours a French name?

Hello Guys, - Avant

Who's Eliza, Unthrottled?

Davmal - we always like to make new posters welcome unless there's any suspicion of their not being genuine.

Hello Guys, - unthrottled

ELIZA was a famous computer program written in the 60s which used list processing algorithms to generate canned phrases ie a computer program which simulates human dialogue.

All chatterbots are based on this principle. The program searches for keywords and phrases (so on HJ, this would be cars) and generates a stock phrase designed to fool users into thinking the post is written by a human.

Judging by the response in the other thread, then they need to brush up on their algorithms...

Right of way rules are generally misunderstood and there are situations where rules may not be clear to everyone. If uncertainty is there about a particular vehicle one should have a vehicle and right to way which can be given to other driver.
Hello Guys, - unthrottled

Indeed. It has used the same opening post on every forum it has joined! It's not very well built and I don't understand what it is trying to achieve. Of course, with a Chinese sounding name, people are more likely to overlook the nonsensical constructions for fear of being thought racist.

Mind you I think there's another primitive bot on the forum-jamie745 doesn't strike me as being entirely bona fide. I think the mods should play it safe and delete the profile.

:P

Hello Guys, - Bobbin Threadbare

Cloutier is 'nailer' in French. Maybe Huon should reply to the thread about noms de plume..?

Hello Guys, - WellKnownSid

I don't know. I do know that Huon Cloutier is an anagram of "Uncoth Oiler", though.

Hello Guys, - FP

I cannot believe that no-one seems to have googled "Huon Cloutier".

If you do so, you will find over eight pages of references specifically to his postings on message boards, mostly but not exclusively to do with motoring; he has provoked varying responses and been banned from some sites. Sometimes his posts are duplicates, but elsewhere he shows a keen interest in safe driving and allegedly has a 2009 BMW and lives in the USA.

Whether that makes him a clever bot, an eccentric human, or something else entirely I couldn't say.

Hello Guys, - pda

It could be that the backroom is paranoid:)

Hello Guys, - davmal
I did google it, and seeing its history and scattergun approach to joining fora, that's why I suggested that it was a bot. I didn't realise that the forum was such a tree hugging, pink, fluffy, pc organisation with such accommodating mods that even cyberbeings have rights ;(
Hello Guys, - Avant

We really don't have time to google every new poster - sorry! That fact doesn't make us fluffy and certainly not PC.

This may be a cyber-creation, but equally could be a genuine person who have elected to join every motoring forum he can find, perhaps being in need of company.

Rest assured that I'll watch out for any more posts from this source - but so far no harm has ben done.
