citroen relay van - expensive garage repairs now need new engine - drivedoc

Around 10 months ago my van started blowing out black smoke and running flat out whilst on a journey.

I managed to bring the van to a halt as was towed to our local citroen garage where i was informed the engine had run on its own oil due to oil overfill and that had blown the pistons.

The garage charged me £2300 to repair the engine.

The van has been fine for around 9 months but a few weeks ago the engine started knocking loudly,i had the van towed back to citroen as the repairs had a 12 month warranty. They informed me that the crank shaft had gone, that it was not covered under the warranty of the repairs they had done and that i would have to pay for a new engine.

I do not know much about diesel engines but have been informed by a mechanic that the crank is very closely linked with the pistons and that they should of also replaced the bearings, and also that they should have advised replacing the engine particually considering the cost of the repair.

Can anyone help.

Have i got a case against the garage?

Read the terms of the 12 month warranty first..

I have read the terms they are saying that the crankshaft is not covered by the repairs however i believe if the repair to the pistons was not carried out properly this can cause damage to the crank, also the van is only a 56 plate with low mileage what is the chances of the crank going on its own without this work being carried out.
