Peugeot 407 2.0 Hdi (136bhp) - Depolution Fault - Emilio

Hi to all,

I have a Depolution System Fault warning on my centre console which comes on when I start then goes off and I have an Orange Engine symbol which stays on, on my centre dash & a smaller one to my right.

Diagnostics from maindealer show

1. Permanent Fault. Additive System. Fuel Cap present sensor fault.

2. Permanent Fault. EGR Valve circuit. Valve position too distant in relation to the reference valve.

3. Permanentt Fault. EGR Solenoid Valve. Test of clearing on switching off the ignition not correct.

Have move away from main dealer to specialised dealer as due to cost. Specialised dealer has fitted No 1 above, (Fuel Cap Sensor) on my instructions (No Diagnostics),

This has cleared No 1 & 2 faults above, I was hoping for all 3. No 3 still remains so Depolution warning still on.

They have suggested in this order:

A. Add Addittive Fluid, £11.00, run for 2 wks, make long runs, run diesel low, see if it works, which I have done, 4 days in now, no luck so far.

B. Do Dignostics, £42.50 + VAT, if required do Download for upgrade software extra £30.00 + VAT

C. Fit EGR Valve, all in £ 326.03 inc VAT.

HELP PLEASE, any ideas in what next step should be, any ideas / solutions, etc. Car is starting to cost me a fortune, only had car for 3 weeks, car has only ever had 1 driver from new + me & milage is only 42,000 genuine miles on an 04 plate.

Any advise would be much appreaciated !!!!

42,000 genuine miles on an 04 plate.

That's why you're having so many problems with it. When will people learn that low mileage does not equate to low wear?!

Sounds like you have a problem with the EGR valve. Adding Eolys isn't going to solve a coked up EGR valve.

The EGR valve is not complicated to clean ,you can see underneath whether the eoly tank is low,a badly fitting fuel cap or eoly filler cap can cause the fault you describe.

Sorry not technical or mechanicly minded, how would I go about attempting to clean it, will check fuel cap on the side of the car but where is the eoly filler cap.

Does it need a new EGR Valve or should I do the diagnostic + software download or am I wasting my money.

Absolutely right. The best engines in terms of performance and fewest problems are always those that clock up a lot of miles very quickly. It always baffles me why people place so much desirability on low mileage. How fit would a horse be if it was only walked around the paddock once in a while? Well it's the same for a car.

Ok, understand what your saying but it can work both ways, I know friends who have bought low milage cars and have covered lots of miles with no fuss. Maybe I am unlucky or should of kept away from Peugeots.

good advice thou, will keep it mind, in the mean time, should I just fit a new EGR Valve or do a diagnostic and maybe a software download first !!!

Well the software download is cheap-so start with that!

I suspect the EGR valve will need cleaning/replacing. BTW, how does the car respond to a sudden request for power? If the EGR valve is not closing properly, it might be a bit more sluggish/smoke a little. Althoughg you probably don't have anything to compare it to!

Ok,

The car when the fault first appeared made the car very sluggish like it was misfiring and performance poor but since then, the more I have driven it the better it has been, at the moment the car is not sluggish and performance is very good, picks up speed quickly no sluggish jerks, dont know if its the new fuel cap sensor or car getting better but fault still on

The faults will show until its connectected to "Planet" Software and the alarm is cleared in certain cases. The EGR valve sits on top of the engine and is quite easy to remove and clean look for one on ebay so you know what they look like.

Ok,

Thanks for info,

Once the EGR Valve is out, how & with what do you clean it , once back in I need to connect to planet software, is that the diagnostics that they charge or something else, where best to go !!

Thanks for your help !!

The egr should not need planet software you should be able to remove it without any concern, cleaning it normaly start with a blunt srewdriver to chip the hard carbon away.
