Vauxhall Corsa B - 1998 - S - GLS 1.0 12v - Tyre Sizes - alan1302

I've had this car about a month now and after checking all the tyres out I have decided to change all the tyres as they are all around 3mm tread and so I was checking teh tyre sizes from the tyres and they are listed as 145/80 R13 75T. Yes when I check online sites they recommend 165/70 R13 75T.

Would it make much difference between these two sizes and does anyone know which I should use?

Cheers,

Is there a size listed in the owners manul or on the drivers door pillar. You need to identify what size/width rims you have as the 165's may cause in creased body role. Regards Peter

Unfortunately I don't have a manual, and not been able to find one online and Vauxhall only go back to 2007 and there is nothing on the door pillar either.

Any good tyre company should be able tell you the correct size from the vin number.

Certainly a facelift Corsa B 1.2 16v on standard steel wheels should be using 165/70 R13's (unless chaved-up) and it's very likely the same steel wheel will take a slightly narrower tyre. However, 145 does seem very narrow, especially on a GLS rather than on a poverty spec model - so as suggested check with a tyre supplier. I doubt Vauxhall made two types of 13" steel wheel for the 1.0 and 1.2 Corsa B with different wheel widths and wheel offset. I'm not sure I'd be too worried about 3mm tread all round going into summer unless the tyres are showing signs of age cracking. http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html What size tyre is on the spare and does it look like it's ever been used?

The spare has 145's on it and has had a lot of use. There is only about 2mm left if that on it.

I had a good look at them this morning and it's only the fronts that are on 145's the two on the back were 165's

Would it be dangerous to have two different sizes on the car?

"Would it be dangerous to have two different sizes on the car?" - I wouldn't do it! Different tyre sizes on same "axle" is an MOT fail and whilst some sports cars can get away with wider tyres on the rear I'd go for 165/70 R 13's all round. This assumes all the steel wheels have the same part number and offset (prefixed ET) stamped on the back - unfortunately you need to remove each wheel to read these two details. http://tinyurl.com/6emqyp8 If the spare is a 145 it's possible this is the original fitment for your Corsa.

Thought I would contact Vauxhall about this and they confirmed that the car was originally on 145/80 R13 75T tyres and I have been able to confirm all the wheel rims are the same - 5Jx13H2

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to putting on the 165/70 R13 tyres or should I stick to what the car came with originally?
