Is it really overheating or is it just the gauge telling you so?

Yes it is Overheating & The Gauge is working as it should

Water Pump & Thermostat ,

New rad switch, Rad fan,

The water flow around the engine was flowing just as it should

All Checked all Worked Well

I had a New Rad Switch Fitted 2 Days Ago

Since then ive only done about 50 miles

40 miles on a motorway - speed 56 to 60 mph

Checking the temp' gauge as i drove

The temp'Gauge showing 92 to no more than just below 95

The problem started on the last 10 miles which was in Slower Town Traffic

As it being a Automatic Car when i stoped at traffic lights - I would always put it into nutral with handbrake on

I know if you leave it in drive when at traffic lights the temp' will goes up a little- then down when you drive off

The car started again to overheat in town traffic my speed was between 20 to 30 mph at time s much slower

I noticed the Temp' going right up to between the 100 and very near the Red mark

so i stopped to check the fan was working ok

and noticed the fan only came on once the temp pasted the 100 mark - near the Red

when the fan went stoped

I looked to see the temp only went down to about 97 / 98

So i pulled in a parked up to let the car cool a while a few times

each time the temp' went back up quickly to over 100

When i got home i rechecked the fan a couple of time to check it was working

also checking the temp' it keeped goiny over 100

and droping down to 98 no more than this.

I SWITCHED THE CAR OFF

( ANY MORE ADVICE WITH THIS PROBLEM )

If you haven't changed the temp gauge sensor I would do so, you have done pretty well everything else except change the radiator, if you have done a fairly high mileage the radiator flow may be restricted, the cooling system is at its most vulnerable in slow traffic as you have no ram effect of cooling air, so if the water pump is working correctly and the gauge is accurate it only leaves the radiator.

Hello

My milage is only 57.022 miles from new

I had the radiator checked

The water flow was normal also had the rad' hosed both ways a few times

it was clear no signs of any blockages either way - the water was clean and clear

no dirt no deposits -- No cold spots found No Blockages

i had the temp gauge sensor checked it seemed to be working

( So for my own mind -- I will have the Temp Gauge Sensor Changed also

The Thermostat as its been in the car for a good few years )

Regards scotlandjim

It sounds like it is all working as it should to me, based on what you have said. As long as the gauge stays out of the red and the coolant isn't boiling, then it isn't overheating.

EVERTHING WAS WORKING WELL

the RAD FAN kicks in at 96 TO 98 THEN DROPS DOWN TO JUST OVER 90

BUT A NEW PROBLEM THE FAN KEEPS RUNNING ON AND ON

THE ONLY WAY I CAN SWITCH IT OF IS BUY TURNING THE ENGINE OFF
