BMW 5 Series 2003 - BMW 5 series starting issues - Gregory II

I have a friend with a BMW 5 series 2003 diesel. It has issues starting whereby if it is left to cool down, it takes some churning to allow it to start. The battery and starter motor are both in order, and I am wondering what might be causing this and the steps I should engage in trying to rectify this fault.

Best regards

Greg

What does BMW or a BMW specialist say? You don't know and neither do they so get expert advice. Have you tried Google searches?

I think there are issues with coils with this car anyway! Any other idea/ useful experience that someone might be able to shed some light on this please?

I think I meant injectors. I wonder if anyone has experience with these vehicles at all?

these suffer from air leaks around the pump shaft causing the diesel to airate. Also check the in tank pump to ensure its working. crank sensors are also a known issue. Its best to ensure all the return injector return pipes are replaced as these go hard and cause fuel leak back. You could try fitting a non return valve between the fuel filter and the pump and see if that helps, if it does you will know the fuel is returning when it shouldnt
