Renault Scenic 2004 (53 plate) VVT 2.0 - Electronic handbrake unit - Moddy

iI am having a few probs with my EHU on my Scenic, the problem is a loud grinding/squealing noise from the rear off side when the cars engine is stopped and the handbrake automatically engages. However if I reverse prior to switching off the engine no noise is heard. (I know strange )

I managed to acquire a second hand one and after a week/two weeks this squealing started again. Taking apart the EHU that I had previously removed there doesnt appear to be anything untoward in side it. I dont fancy buying a brand new unit if theproblem is now the EHU but something to do with the calliper or another area.

I would be grateful for any advice that you might have concerning what is causing this anomoly. The noise is definately coming from the offside rear area and only when the engine is stopped, the appropriate warning on the dash board is evident (Check rear brake)It just seems strange that it sholld occur so quickly after fitting the 2nd hand unit.

Many thanks

Having attempted to resolve the problem I purchased a 2nd hand unit and it wasnt too long before the problem arose again. I have however had to take the car into a Renault garage due to the dashboard problem and also the software update for the EHU. Pleading ignorance I returned with a 'squeal' and they kindly investigated it for me.

The result is that the rear discs are badly eroded and it is not allowing the brakes to reset properly and thus sending a incorrect message to the computer. The remedy is to replace the disc pads and brake pads thus allowing the handbrake to reset normally.

They have indicated that if this is not the problem then they will investigate further at no cost to me.

Will keep you posted.
